How does Europe live up to the ideals enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights? The first European Hospitality Tribunal examines the record.
The first European Hospitality Tribunal gathered in
Stavanger to examine the question, with the help of writers and others directly engaged with threats to freedom of expression. Distinguished speakers and panellists gave first-hand accounts of how Europe’s political and judicial practices correspond with Europe’s humanistic values and obligations. They revealed how immigrants and refugees are received at European borders and presented the latest accounts of Europe’s humanitarian record.
And the verdict? Europe still has a long way to go before it can celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
